Soul Purpose vs Life Lessons – How to Find Life Purpose
How to find life purpose is one of the most common questions I hear from clients. Almost every person I’ve worked with has asked some version of the same thing: “How do I find my life purpose?”
It’s such a universal longing and yet, most of the time, the way the question is framed is incomplete. Many seekers come with the hope of understanding not just how to find life purpose, but also how to find meaning in life in a way that feels authentic and lasting.
At Soul Quest, with Debjani Ghosh as your Akashic Mentor, I see purpose as two interconnected journeys:
- Soul Purpose → who you are at creation, your energetic strengths and powers.
- Life Lessons → the syllabus your soul chooses to learn across incarnations, through karma and free will.
Until you see both, you’ll always feel like something is missing.
Part One: Soul Purpose – Who You Were Created to Be
Every soul was created with a unique energetic blueprint. Your soul purpose is made up of your:
- Soul Powers (energetic strength): For me, it’s Divine Manifestation, which means I am here to create in the physical world through intention and alignment.
- Soul Specializations: Gifts that allow you to direct energy in particular ways (teaching, healing, building, restoring).
- Soul Orientation: The way you naturally process energy, systemic, organic, linear, etc.
This is why how to find your purpose in life begins with knowing your soul purpose. It never changes, it is imprinted at your soul’s creation. You could incarnate on Earth, or elsewhere, but your soul powers remain the same.
Think of it as your divine DNA.

Part Two: Life Lessons - The Syllabus of Growth
Once a soul is created, it has free will. Through incarnations, it enters different families, cultures, and lifetimes. Each one carries a syllabus of life lessons that the soul has chosen to learn.
Life lessons are not punishments, they are growth pathways. They keep repeating until they are integrated.
For example, my primary life lesson is Success. This means I experience life through the lens of success and failure. I am constantly asked to define what success really means, not by society’s definition, but by my soul’s truth.
Alongside this, I have secondary lessons like Compassion and Boundaries, which add texture to my journey. Every relationship, every country, every workplace becomes a classroom for these lessons.
Example Story: The Lesson of Belonging
I once worked with a client named Raghav (name changed) who had lived in multiple countries. Every time he moved, he felt out of place. At first, he thought his life lesson was about career adaptation. But when we explored his soul records, it became clear: his deeper lesson was Belonging.
The countries themselves became his teachers. Living in the U.S., he learned individualism. In India, he felt the weight of community. In Europe, he struggled with isolation. Each place mirrored back what he needed to learn about creating inner belonging, rather than seeking it externally.
This is similar to what I often share on my podcast Karma to Kriya – that karmic loops repeat across lifetimes, until the lesson is completed and transmuted into wisdom.
Relationships as Teachers
Relationships are one of the most powerful ways life lessons play out.
- A parent-child bond may teach unconditional love.
- A marriage may teach communication or resilience.
- A difficult boss may teach boundaries.
These aren’t random, they are pre-chosen soul agreements, designed to catalyze your growth.
In my own relationships, the lesson of Success has shown up often. I’ve had to ask: “Am I defining success by recognition and achievement or by the depth of soul connection I allow?”
How to Find Life Purpose: A Soul Quest Lens
So when you ask, how to determine your purpose in life, here’s the Soul Quest lens with Debjani Ghosh:
- Discover your Soul Purpose → Learn your soul powers, blueprint, and specializations. (This never changes—it’s who you are at creation.)
- Understand your Life Lessons → Identify your primary and secondary lessons. Notice how they play out in work, relationships, and environments.
- Integrate Karma into Kriya → Clear past-life baggage, release repeating loops, and choose conscious alignment in the present.
Only when these two aspects come together do you truly understand how to find your life purpose and experience fulfillment.
Case Study: Aisha’s Life Purpose Integration
Aisha, 37, was a successful entrepreneur but deeply unfulfilled. She kept asking: “How to find your life purpose in a way that brings me joy?”
In her Soul Quest session with me, we uncovered:
- Soul Purpose: She carried the gift of Divine Communication. She was here to express and share ideas with clarity.
- Life Lesson: Her primary lesson was Worthiness. Every relationship tested whether she felt “good enough.”
In a past life, she had been silenced for speaking out. That karmic imprint carried into this life, where she struggled with public speaking and self-promotion.
Through clearing that baggage, and leaning into her soul purpose, Aisha began sharing her voice through podcasts and workshops. Suddenly, business wasn’t just about profit, it was about alignment.
She told me: “For the first time, I see how my soul purpose and life lessons are working together, not against each other.”
Reflection Prompts
Here are five questions to help you explore:
- What do I know about my soul powers or natural gifts that feel timeless?
- What repeating challenges in my life point to a deeper life lesson?
- Which relationships have been my greatest teachers, and what lessons did they bring?
- How do cultural or national environments influence the way I experience my lessons?
- What would it feel like to live a life where my soul purpose and life lessons are integrated?

Soul Purpose + Life Lessons = Alignment
Finding meaning is not about chasing one big answer. It’s about holding two truths at once:
- Soul Purpose → who you were created to be.
- Life Lessons → the syllabus you are here to master.
When you embrace both, you not only understand how to find life purpose but also discover how to find meaning in life at a soul level.
As I share in my Karma to Kriya podcast, purpose is not something you “achieve.” It’s something you embody, once karmic baggage clears and the lessons integrate.
With guidance from Soul Quest and Debjani Ghosh, you’ll uncover how to find your purpose in life, learn how to determine your purpose in life, and truly experience how to find your life purpose with clarity and alignment.
